about

This song is my personal plea and encouragement to all hard-working peoples of the earth. Get your hands dirty, and your shirt too. During my time in the farming world, I've sensed a funk among the people I've meet that sometimes goes unexpressed. I've seen a tendency for us to work, work, work, to do everything that needs getting done, and miss an opportunity to have some experience of catharsis, or release from the work. I feel this is a much needed ingredient of our long-term health. I would even go so far as to say that the longevity of all us young farmers depends on our ability to celebrate as hard as we work. So this song is trying to draw out that spirit of celebration. It's an invitation to you- express yourself!

There's also that line in there about how the land is the jury of the way we do the things we do. I like to think about how our landscape can be a living witness and testament to what we're doing and how we're doing it. That's why I get inspired when I go to visit farms, because they're often vibrant places where there's a real two-way-street between the people and the land. You can tell a lot about the people by the way the farm looks and feels, and you can tell a lot about the land by the way the people are.

lyrics

Get your hands dirty, baby
And your shirt too.
It’s the land that’s the jury, baby
Of the way we do the things we do
Get your feet wet, baby
Are those boots waterproof?
Put your style on it, baby
